Holy crap, hahaha
I just finished watching the first episode of the new anime Master of Epic.
It is basically a theatre of MMO (and many WoW-specific) in-jokes that only someone who plays would really get.
Some examples:
- There’s a young girl (played by a boy) named Collon, who has to go get some spider silk for a quest.
- There’s someone yelling out for a rez (’rizu’).
- There’s a knight who kills a dragon to eat dragon steak.
- A bandage that when wrapped, miraculously, all the wounds go away (and the clothes reform).
- When enemies die they disappear and turn into a bag of loot
- Someone’s giant elephant pet blocks the door to one place in town and no one can go through the door.
- Two characters fishing off a pier.
- A public service announcement to beward of great white sharks (suck my diiiiiiick) when fishing
- There’s a tiny warlock girl who is hungry so she eats her bat-summon (it’s described as a sacrifice move that regains hp and mana) - but it’s apparently terrifying to watch.
- A bunch of emotes are shown and then explained (including dance, cheer, etc) including the message bubbles above that says “boss dances”
- Someone needs seaweed for a quest they’re on and they have to go to another area for it (their quest is to make norimaki, because they’re a chef).
- “but if we get defeated that’s it. Two of our items will be taken away” (by the other faction)
- A five-color all girl gnome sentai team saves two characters from being ganked/robbed (one of them turns into a feral-type form to do this - gnome druids?) …(anyone want to form a waragecha five guild?)
- A big mouse is described as ‘easy for beginners to hunt’
Glad to see we’re way past the time when this can’t be considered ‘mainstream entertainment’. Most of it isn’t really even that ‘funny’, though I am curious as to how many years until the ’situation comedy’ distinctions wear off and it just becomes another sitcom genre like ‘guy with only women in family/household’.

WiYGN is all about my ideal awards show tonight. The types of awards, the house band, who presents, who wins and so on. This is the episode you want to tune in for if you think Spike TV and G4 are doing it wrong.

Check out the Japan Media Arts Festival award winners for this year. Lot’s of great entries this year including Okami, Yotsuba&! and PIKA PIKA amongst others. There really needs to be more of these non-industry type awards for artistic awesome given. I’m really getting a bit tired of the industry-based awards ceremasterbamony.

This week, we do a run-down of some recent news in the bloggery-land. Stuff like the re-affirmation that play games make you better surgeons, Vivian Redding is the new Villain of the Year of the Internet, and some lovely lawsuits against Blizzard. Then we hit a tangent about botting in games, and how there’s been similar concepts made by creative players. Games within games is fun, and we’ll probably see more of it. We invaded the Barcade with Xenon and Anniex0r, out here in Los Angeles, and had a blast. A chat about the concepts of skill vs. ‘grind,’ and skill vs. RMTs ties up the show, which is punctuated with Oizys whipping up his world-famous tourettes set!

I seriously can’t make this shit up (well, I could but that would be dangerously close to FAN FICTION).
The summary is: Second Life seems to be exciting the Netherlands’ Ban Hammer. While virtual child porn is already banned, virtual sex with virtual children is not (adult players acting through child-like avatars) but this is looking to change fast. A prosecutor with the real name Kitty Nooij will start bringing cases to the court to set precendence.
So uh, what’s the “Time until Kitty” when someone takes on that name or persona as a Second Life avatar? I see penii in the near future. Also, Dutch psychologists are calling Second Life “by definition a school for paedophiles”. Funny, I thought that was called Elementary School.
Maybe it’s my warped way of seeing things, but after reading this article I immediately thought of an alternate reality episode of “Saved By the Bell” meets “Doug” where they’re all in middle school, and some furry cereal-box-top character named Kitty comes to warn them of the dangers of the 2006-real-world version of Screech. If someone re-enacts this episode in Second Life, I want royalties.
Shit, so much for narrowly avoiding the Fan Fiction tag.

In EGM this month Jack tretton claims in early january 2007 that PS3 are impossible to come by. During this time they were in stock in a few places. He put a bounty for $1200 if they could find any consoles.
As it stands. The Wii is still very difficult to find. I work in a retail store that also sells videogames (360-ps3-wii) and they just dissapear off the shelves. I have heard reports of people still scalping wii’s them on ebay.
Wii system search on ebay
Obviously its been 2 months since chrismas and the price is STILL inflated to 50-100$ over the origional value. I don’t think i’ve ever seen such a huge response to a gaming consoles. The ds lite still fly of shelves as well.
Idiot jack
The penny arcade people (bless their souls) did a rare saturday comic rebutting this very redicilous argument.
Pa comic
In ending Ps3 doesn’t look like it will see a price drop anytime soon. I can only say that means certain doom for the ps3 unless things change suddenly.
Jack says No to PS3 price drop
Jack, you really do need to stop doing these interviews. Your making yourself look like an idiot.
Whoops… too late.
