This week we’ll talk about Anime Con Carne, Portal, and all the crazy Nintendo news that dropped this week. Anime on Carne was a blast, Oizys won a prize. We support the effort totally and are going to rock that stuff out hardcore next year. Nintendo news!~ Sonic vs. Mario?! Finally?! Games games games?! Miyamoto’d all over us. Lasty but not leasty, we fanboy over Portal, a masterfully crafted game. Come drool with us.
Persona 3 is out, and Oizys is drooling all over it. We go over a bit of the history of it and some of the cultural differences between Japan and USA. Roleplaying games: choice and morality. We revisit previous discussions what we think the differences are between “RPGs” and Role Playing Games. We talk about Indy games, and game genres. We talk about Haze, and asymmetrical game balancing.
This looks awesome; it’s also a way way prototype, so it might not even look like this, and this song might not even show up in the final game. But if it’s anything like this, it’s awesome. Granted, stuff like this has been done before with Guitarfreaks/Drummania/Keyboardmania, but it’s all Japaneazy stuff, not stuff I know or recognize.
China’s drive to impose social and political “harmony” on the internet has claimed a new set of victims: undead skeletons. Chinese players of World of Warcraft, a hugely popular online role-playing game, have expressed outrage after their ‘undead skeleton’ characters were suddenly clad in new flesh, apparently in order to comply with a secret government ban on bare bones.
This makes at least the second time China has shaped the biggest MMO in the world. The first being the decision to not allow Pandarin as the first race expansion. (It’s illegal to portray Pandas getting harmed in China.)
This episode is a quick con-report from Anime Expo 2007. We go over all the adventures we had, with Xenon, alcohol, dances, cosplay, Elite Beat Agents, and more. Next year the Con is at The LA Convention center, and that scares us. We got some great pictures and video which we’ll get up ASAP!
THE ANIME EXPO EDITION! We are prepared for the Anime Expo adventures. We discuss some of the stranger things happening this con, like how there’s a Rocky Horror movie showing, as well as an advanced screening of the Transformers movie. We quickly talk about Elite Beat Agents, how fun it is, and how we’re going to be them. Oizys gets some Pokemon Coliseum, Pokemons, let me show you them. If you’re going to AX, let us know!
Anime Expo is coming soon, and they are deploying transvestite robots! Not really, but they are showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show and a advanced screening of the Transformers movie? That’s not very animoo or Japanese? Or is it? Oizys talks at length about Odin Sphere, and a revelation he came up with; it’s River City Ransom on crack. In addition to all the similarities, it also has some pretty engrossing. Plundr, a new DS game uses some awesome wifi hax to make a game based off the trade and pillaging of pirate life. Moving around in reality simulates movement in the game, where your physical location determines where you are in relationship to islands and other pirates. From the makers of Heroclix comes Haloclix. The world is not ready. We visit Supreme Commander again, because of the new patch. We talk about big real-world-influenced maps and how they change the game.
