Joi Ito, an Internet hero gave a talk about World of Warcraft. He brings up some cool stuff like Bartle Types, and more. Also, one of the founders of WoWRadio gives a talk at a tech conference. It’s interesting to me to compare the two talks. They are about different things, but the presenters have different backgrounds and presentation forms.

This is just further proof of my Drama Coefficient theory in action. I’d say a DCMA lawsuit is about 1 hectodrama worth.

They did it. Second life has just gone open source. What.
An interesting turn in the copybot saga to say the least.
Possibly the first time a hacker/griefer has helped catalyzed the public release of corporate source code in the MMO industry. Is this rewarding the behavior? Is this going to solve the problem? I dunno, but you gotta hand it to them, Linden knows how to kick the Buzz Bouncer in the Billy.
Now they’re touting themselves as instantly the largest open-source project in the world.
Good grief(er).

Ok while at dinner tonight and talking about Goth scene drama, I made a connection to Cosplay scene drama that may have unlocked a new theory for looking at ‘drama’.
Coincidently, Pen’s show tonight helped me think more about this theory and validate it, so here goes:
I call it the Drama Coefficient (or the Drama Factor for those less likely to Coefficize).

In continuing research about the SLPenis escapade, I found what amounts to more than just She said, He said. I feel torn in the middle here (this isn’t a goatse joke). While I have an immense distaste for griefing of any sort (especially anything that enters real life), I do generally believe that not-taking-anything-seriously is a good way to approach the internet. Second Life is somewhat differentish in that people are making real money there, so I see a definitive line drawn muddily over there somewhere.
I suppose it goes back to my old distinction:

A person/group of people have been posting a series on SomethingAwful, in which they go on adventures within Second Life. They actually had the coverage of the Room 101 penis invasion that we linked to previously. They have made a video collection of some of their exploits on YouTube.
Warning: Some of the vids flagged ‘mature’ because of pixel boobies, so you’ll need to sign into your account (and of course be LEGAL) to see some of them.

We referred to a few posts we made recently, here:
Second Life Penis Invasions and More
This one has it all, folks

As a followup to Oizys’s previous post, and in preparation for our discussion tonight, we have some more info about the recent Second Life adventures that took place recently, in which a noteable Second Life personality was interviewed online, and summarily assaulted by floating, wobbling, male genitalia.
Something Awful seems to have some rather surprising in-depth coverage of the event, including some video on the third page. It’s quite epic:

Raph pointed out a few more angles here:

And lastly, to continue the theme, some people have determined the actual real-life energy consumption that an average Second Life avatar consumes, which means it’s now possible to actually determine how much a virtual furry penis harms our environment due to pollution from creating energy. Details here:

Ok, we officially don’t need to do a show tonight now, because this news link covers just about everything we talk about regularly. It has second life, virtual worlds, economy and virtual business, video game violence, griefing, and last of all but certainly not least, PENIS.
Seriously, I can’t make this shit up. Ok I could, but it wouldn’t nearly be as funny.
